I once stated in a social media comment that the people supporting Trump are the mob. It was an insensitive and ignorant comment, rushed and void of clarity.
So here is my understanding of that “mob”, unpacked to better express what I feel and what I think should be said:
The people supporting Trump, just like any other people falling to the extreme, are the people who lost or never had the comfort of being heard.
People who lost hope in something better and then clinged to the promise they can relate to, the one that gave them a sense of "possible".
Then, you have the people who never tasted privilege as they hoped they will, but grew envious of those who did.
Then, you have the ones in pain.
The ones in desperation or in anger.
And then, there's more. MAGA reveals United States' National Trauma. In the minds of most people, Trump and his apparatus is a quick fix, a bandaid, a snake oil solution to a problem requiring surgery and long term treatment.
Pardon my language,
Extremism happens when nobody fucking listens to those who want or need to be heard.
We must stop blaming Trump. It's like blaming the head of the Inquisition for the atrocities sponsored by the Church and carried on by regular psychopaths while - just like now - the masses took the abuse.
I was hoping that after the first "Trump" term some would learn, but we're back at square one, emotional - thus divided - and intolerant in our ignorance, blaming the front bumper of a car whose engine is designed to grind everything in its path, and to keep people in one form of obedience or another, more or less comfortable yet still in a state of slavery to the machine.
The “mob” is people. Our neighbors, our friends, and often our families. The only difference between “us” and “them” is our perception and understanding of what the solution is to a common problem.
Then, you have those who benefit from this chaos. These folks are a different breed, one immune to empathy or compassion for others. They do not support Trump because they were not heard, but because they have access to privilege and a purse that makes them feel superior or even untouchable by the human suffering…of others.
MAGA is not an enemy, it is a competitor. It competes for the power to control the designing process of our society and in some cases the designing process of our world.
MAGA is Trauma. MAGA is insecurity and fear. MAGA is hope, hijacked by crooks.
Trump and the powerful interests now in power, just like others before them, are “simply” using collective and individual trauma as levers to control and steer the machine toward a level of chaos that ensures the rise of authoritarian regimes.
Our collective hopes and dreams are being hijacked to fuel competing ideologies, leaving us almost literally in the dust while the psychopaths in power race for more and more control over everything, demanding obedience and rewarding loyalty.
MAGA is Trauma, turning a nation against itself, just like an autoimmune disease does to an individual. And it is lethal when left unchecked.
